The 7 Things That You Have to Know When Staying in a Hotel!

Can I join you? Can I make a visit to the Hotel?... these are the questions "probably" some people wanting to ask YOU or perhaps when some of your relatives, friends or even acquaintances know that you are in a Hotel. But, definitely, this blog will let you know some of the standard norms and basic information when staying in a hotel. From complimentary stuff in the hotel room to deposit fee to standard check-in time. So, without further ado, here are the things that you have to know when staying in a Hotel - if you were in my shoes.

1. When you book a hotel room - 2 adults and 2 kid/s can only SLEEP!
Regardless if it is a Queen size bed or Two single beds, it will always be 2 adults and 2 kid/s are the number of people can only stay (sleep) in a hotel or 4 People maximum unless you are staying in a 2-Bedroom Suite or Apartment.

To add 1 extra person (kid or adult), you will need to pay either i.e. you get an extra bed with breakfast or just pay for another extra person's breakfast without requesting an extra bed.  However, if you are a Family of 5 people (2 adults + 3 kids), hotels usually allow you to get an extra bed. Case to case basis depending on your child's age or extra person's age.

2. Buffet Breakfast is FREE for 2 adults and 2 kid/s (depending on each Hotel's policy)
When you book in a hotel, it is always standard that 2 adults and 2 kid/s are FREE but depending on hotel's strict policy for Buffet Breakfast for the ages of the kid/s.

Some hotels they FREE of charge for the kid/s ages up to 6 years old (even up to 15 years old) and some hotels only free kid/s ages up to 2 years old & below.  Different hotels, Different sets of rules or policy! So, make sure that you will check at their Website first before you make a booking so, you won't make a complain when you arrive at the hotel.  Extra person's breakfast can be charged from Php700-Php2,000++ for adults and 50% discount off for kid/s (based on my hotel staycation experiences in Manila).

3.  Visitors are allowed but..."The property has a strict NO party policy!"
Visitors are "allowed" but hotels have different sets of restrictions they imposed for the people who booked at their hotel so, that makes actually NOT.

Hotels limit the people who can actually use their facilities and even have their own staff to oversee the number of guests that will use the Swimming pool, Kid's room, Fitness centre, and Sauna- even some use log-in books to monitor the number of people who are coming in based on your hotel room number. i.e. In one room - 2 adults and 2 kids  (4 people) can only use the swimming pool, 2 adults can use the fitness centre!

Hotels have their modernised CCTV's so, don't think they wouldn't know or see that you bringing a guest/s. Not to mention, mostly hotels now use a "Smart hotel key cards" meaning...only people who are really booked in the hotel can only use or access their elevator lifts. "Your Security is the reason why it is very important your Privacy matters to the Hotel".

4.  Deposit Fee is always required!
When you stay in a hotel, there is a deposit or incidental charges per room per night they required for a guest.

Make sure that when you check-in or book in a hotel, you will also bring extra cash (or credit card) so, you won't be shocked if you stay for a week in a hotel and they will require you a deposit which will cost  PHP2K-5K per room per night (based on my hotel staycation experiences in Philippines) unless you are an expected VIP guest that the Reception wouldn't require you to make a deposit at all.

5.  Your Stay Doesn't come with FREE Bath Towels, Bath Robes, Hangers, etc!
Truth is! Yes! embarrassing to say, indeed some people think that when they stay at the hotel, they "can" take the towels, bathrobes, hangers, etc!

Please have some decency not to take it and perhaps, if you like it, just inquire at the reception and pay for it. Even one ridiculous story that I've heard from the hotel, that one guest even took a Hotel's painting after checking out (well, it was charged on her given credit card). If you will notice these days, they even put a note in the room how much to buy bath towels, bathrobes, etc!

But, of course, definitely, there is some stuff which are *FREE in your room or you can take when you stay in the hotel like Shampoo, Conditioner, Body Wash, Toothbrush, even Room Slippers, and Ballpen! Other than that, No No!  (*Okay to do but not my own recommendation)

6.  The Hotel's Standard check-in time is 2pm or 3pm and check-out time is 12pm.
The hotel's standard check-in time is 2pm or 3pm and check-out time the next day is 12pm.

Unless you have a High Status of Membership card of the hotel. i.e. Hilton Honors for Hilton Hotels, Le Club Accor for Accor Hotels, Discovery for GHA Hotels...to name a few of some of the hotel membership cards. I, myself is a  GHA Discovery *Black Member so, it gives me the privilege to have a check-in as early as 9am and check-out at 6pm of all the Luxury Hotels under GHA.

My Discovery GHA Black Member
(*Black membership requires 30+ nights stays in one (1) Calendar year booking directly at www.gha.com )

However, there is no harm if you can make a kind request for a late check-out of 1pm or 2pm (instead of 12pm) without any additional charges!

7.  The Mini Bar is NOT Complimentary
Unless there is a NOTE inside the room that all the foods in the mini bar and drinks in the fridge are FREE, it will be charged accordingly. Only Bottled water, Coffee/Tea making facilities are usually FREE in the hotel room.

Wow, nice post about Luxury Brand of Hotel in Malaysia. Malaysia has many mid-range of budget hotels also which provide good accommodation at affordable prices. These hotels may not have a swanking lobby or huge in-house stores, but they too provide great rooms and most of them have room service and other facilities. A few days ago, I had gone there & booked the luxury hotel for me from Ambong-ambong.com, who provides a group of cottages, suites and pool villas set amidst a tropical forest.
